The Romans named it Betis, but present day the name of the river is the Guadalquivir River, that means in Arab ‘The Big River’. It begins at the natural park of Sierra de Cazorla (Jaén), passes through Córdoba and Seville and ends at the Gulf of Cádiz, in the Atlantic Ocean. With 657 km, it’s the longest river of Andalusia and second longest river of Spain. Nowadays the rivers holds many stories and fun fact about the Sevillian history. In this Seville Kayaking Tour you are going to learn and discover the city.
This fun and educational tour involves kayaking along the city centre of Seville on the Guadalquivir River. After a short introduction course on how to manage the kayak you will depart from Betis street number 19, situated in Triana for the Guadalquivir River where you will pass through the city. The well experienced guide will take you on a journey through some of Seville´s most important historical moments such as the discovery of America and the first trip around the world. You will see sights such as Triana La Isla de La Cartuja, La Maestranza, El Barrio del Arenal and the Universal Exhibition of 1992.
This river was most important during the golden period of Seville that started after the discovery of America and lasted about 150 years. Seville was the main port of Europe of incoming goods from America such as gold, silver and tobacco. The river sanded in the 17th century and Seville became less important. For the Expo of 92′ the river was restored and is now used for cruises and kayaking.
