Immerse yourself in the history of Seville: El Salvador Church, Cathedral and Giralda
Book Now
Discover the jewels of Seville‘s royal heritage on a memorable guided tour of El Salvador Church, the Cathedral also known as Santa Maria de la Sede and the Giralda Tower. Steeped in history and beauty, these iconic monuments, both recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offer a glimpse into the city’s Muslim, Gothic and Renaissance past.
El Salvador Church is known as Seville’s primitive mosque. Inside is the Retablo Mayor and the Retablo de la Virgen de las Aguas. This temple with a rich history houses the images of the Brotherhood of the Passion, the Lord, Our Mother and Lady of Mercy by Sebastián Santos Rojas from 1964. Other outstanding altarpieces are those of the Brotherhood of Cristo del Amor, Santa Ana, Santa Justa and Rufina.
The almost 1.5 hour visit to the Cathedral of Seville, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, will reveal its secrets and its evolution over the centuries. From its origins in the 12th century as the Aljama Mosque of Isbilya, the largest mosque of Muslim Seville has become one of the most famous Gothic temples in the world.
We will explain in detail all its hidden treasures, its legendary past and see the tomb of the explorer Christopher Columbus. A highlight is the Giralda, the ancient Moorish minaret of the mosque. After a detailed explanation of its architecture and history as one of the tallest towers in the world for centuries, visitors will have free time to climb the ramps to the 90-metre summit and enjoy the panoramic views of Seville.
