A visit to Doñana National Park and El Rocío from Seville
Book Now
Our day trip to Doñana National Park in a 4×4 is a journey into the heart of nature, setting off from Seville accompanied by a specialist guide.
Our first stop will be the Seville town of Puebla del Río, on the edge of the Doñana marshes. Run right through by the River Guadalquivir, this town is home to one of the best-preserved wild olive groves in the area, the Dehesa de Abajo, which is home to the largest colony of white storks in Europe. The slight elevation of this pastureland above the marshland is ideal for observing hundreds of birds in their natural habitat and taking in the flat landscape of the marsh.
Every year, the marshes provide a habitat for more than 300 different species of birds, making this the most important natural area on the European continent. The area is also Spain’s largest rice-growing region in terms of cultivated area.
We’ll continue our tour to the village of El Rocío, famous throughout the country for its annual pilgrimage. Here, the typical Andalusian atmosphere of centuries past is brought to life, as if we were travelling back in time, with its sandy streets filled with horses and people on foot.
In the village, we will visit the famous Sanctuary of Our Lady of El Rocío, the Hermitage, where more than a million people gather every year to take part in the famous pilgrimage.
After exploring the village of El Rocío, we’ll travel in our 4x4s to the Palacio del Acebrón, next to the Arroyo de la Rocina, where we’ll discover another of Doñana’s ecosystems: the gallery forest. We’ll go on a circular walking route whilst interpreting animal tracks and learning about some of the plant species endemic to this natural environment.
Once we’ve finished this walk and taken a short break for lunch to sample the local cuisine, we’ll head to the next ecosystem on our tour: the beach.
Doñana Beach is the longest unspoilt beach in Spain. We’ll explore its unique shifting dunes, where we’ll be able to observe the flora and fauna typical of this ecosystem. What’s more, if the weather’s on our side, you’ll be able to enjoy a refreshing swim that’ll be a real treat. Don’t forget to bring your swimwear if you’re visiting us in summer!
At sunset, we’ll begin our return journey to Seville, travelling through the wooded area of Doñana National Park, in the hope of spotting some of the large mammals that live there, such as deer, foxes and wild boar, and trying to catch a glimpse of the park’s icon: the famous Iberian lynx.
Please also bear in mind that we organise two-day trips to Doñana National Park from Seville, including one night’s accommodation, and that this excursion is available as a private tour.
