Retiro Park, This beautiful tourist attraction in the city is a historical garden and public park. Inside, we can contemplate it’s collection of architecture, sculptures, and landscapes from between the 17th and 21st centuries.
Of these monuments, we will give special attention to the one dedicated to Alfonso XII, the Crystal Palace, the Great Pond, the Parterre, the Gate of Philip IV, the Royal Astronomical Observatory and the Fountain of the Artichoke. We will also be sure to see the chapel of San Pelayo and San Isidoro.
Our guide will tell you about how in 1767 Charles III agreed that this area could be used for recreational events, and it became a city park. In 1868 the park was taken over by the Madrid city council. Much of the original layout was destroyed during the French invasion, however there are still traces of the 17th and 18th century throughout the park.
The park is 118 hectares and a has a perimeter of 4.5 km, bordered to the north by Calles Alcalá and O’Donnell, to the south by Calle del Poeta Estaban Villegas, to the west by Calle Alfonso XII, and to the east by the Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo.
Naturanda will help you discover one of the most emblematic city parks in Spain.
