A 2-day, 1-night visit to Doñana National Park

Our two-day trip to Doñana National Park will begin on the morning of the first day, when our guide will collect you from your accommodation in Seville or the surrounding area. The departure time will depend on the time of year and the movements of the animals that our guides have observed in the days leading up to your visit.
The first stop on this exciting tour will be the wetland area in the northern part of Doñana Natural Park. There, we will enjoy a unique landscape where rice fields and hundreds of birds come together in the most important marshes on the European continent. The Guadalquivir and Guadiamar rivers are primarily responsible for the terrain’s topography and for supplying water to the marshes and rice fields.
We will continue our route through the northern part of Doñana National Park until we reach the village of El Rocío. A unique village of traditional marshland houses, with sandy streets where the locals ride on horseback and where it feels as though you’ve stepped back in time.
After strolling through its streets, we arrive at the chapel, which is the heart of the world-famous El Rocío pilgrimage. Inside, it houses the famous Virgin of El Rocío. Every year, around a million pilgrims and devotees gather here for one of the world’s most significant and notable displays of religious devotion.
We will leave the village of Rocío to continue exploring other ecosystems in Doñana. Our next destination will be the Palacios del Acebrón and the area around the Rocina stream, where we will enjoy a circular walk that highlights the main features of a gallery forest. At the end of the trail, it will be time for a short break to sample the local cuisine in one of the area’s most unique bars or restaurants.
Our next destination will be Matalascañas beach. At over 30 km long, the Doñana beach is the longest unspoilt stretch of coastline in Spain. We’ll learn about the plant and animal species that live there, as well as the process by which its unique shifting dunes are formed. Weather permitting, we’ll be able to enjoy a refreshing swim in the late afternoon. We will then return to El Rocío, where you will have some free time to settle into your rural accommodation and enjoy a good dinner at one of the village’s bars or restaurants.
The following morning, after breakfast, we will resume our tour by visiting other sites and ecosystems in Doñana. We will stop at the Palacio del Acebuche, where a conservation project for the Iberian lynx – the most endangered feline on the planet – has been underway for many years.
We’ll take a tour of the most wooded restricted area of the National Park, where we’ll have the chance to spot some of the large mammals that call Doñana home. After a wonderful morning, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and a final rest before setting off on the journey back to Seville, taking with us a thousand and one unforgettable memories of an exciting getaway to Doñana.
Remember that if you only have one day to visit Doñana, you can do so with our one-day tour of the national park; in any case, if you have any questions, we’ll be happy to help.
